Poetry Out Loud

On behalf of the planning committee and all of the sponsoring and hosting organizations, thank you to all of the superintendents, principals, teachers, students, parents, and others who helped to make Poetry Out Loud: National Poetry Recitation Contest such a huge success in Nevada.

We are very proud of the fact that

Nevada achieved 100% participation among all of its school districts with a high school.  We achieved this level of success thanks to the combined efforts of thirty-six high schools, fifty teachers, more than 1200 students, and scores of school administrators, family members, volunteers, and business people.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone.  We look forward to working with you again next year!

Please feel free to “comment” on this blog by writing about your experiences with Poetry Out Loud.

Coordinators and Teachers: We are especially interested in hearing about how you implemented this program in your school or district and anecdotal stories that reveal the strengths (or challenges) of this program.

It’s not an education without the Arts is merely a stop gap measure.

We expect in just two years that our policymakers will wisely invest in our future by reinforcing and expanding Nevada’s commitment to the arts in our educational system. We want to see arts education discussed by candidates for local, state, and national offices, including school boards. We want to be represented by people who support balanced, arts-inclusive education for all students across Nevada.

This blog is your chance to engage the arts and education community in an open discussion on how to make this effort a reality. It’s up to you, and your peers to make the arts a vital, funded part of our educational system.
